Empire Chess – Vol 18

The Grand Prix Attack Bb5 System is both an agressive and positional chess opening. White prepares an attack on the kingside with an early f4, while maintaining the threat of doubling black’s pawns with Bxc6 – applying similar positional concepts as found in the Nimzo-Indian Defense. If you are a 1. e4 player who has trouble against the main lines of the Sicilian Defense, and you don’t want to dedicate dozens of hours of valuable chess studying time to memorizing all of the variations so you can achieve an ending at .43 – why not try a different system to get better results with less effort? This setup is perfect for the beginner and intermediate chess player because it is driven by understanding of positional concepts and thematic attacking plans – NOT memorization of move orders! In this 2 hour chess DVD, Grandmaster Eugene Perelshteyn presents his deep knowledge and experience of how to crush the Sicilian Defense with the Grand Prix Attack Bb5 System.

GM Eugene PerelshteynGM Perelshteyn and his former chess coach GM Roman Dzindzichasvili have used the Grand Prix Attack Bb5 System with great success over their distinguished careers, scoring a number of impressive victories with the dangerous sideline system for white against the Sicilian Defense. Grandmaster Perelshteyn is a renown chess trainer with over a decade of teaching experience, and his profound understanding of how to clearly present advanced chess concepts really shines through in this DVD. The talented GM reviews all of the main lines and sidelines in the Grand Prix Attack Bb5 System, guaranteeing his viewers a high level of success with this incredibly effective opening weapon against the Sicilian Defense.

I learned the Grand Prix Attack from the book, Chess Openings for White Explained written by GM Perelshteyn, GM Roman Dzindzichashvili and GM Lev Alburt. However, listening to GM Perelshteyn’s analysis on this DVD is a great complement to the book. He brings us up-to-date on the latest developments in all the critical lines. I especially like the parts where he asks the listener to pause the video and guess the next move that White should play. Sometimes it’s a real shocker! The Grand Prix Bb5 System is full of tactical shots where there are many places where Black can go wrong. The best part is that this opening can be played against almost all the Sicilian systems!

All DVDs of Eugene Perlshteyn are worth looking – his explaining style is perfect – you simply get it by listening. The system on this DVD is quite interesting but to give away the bishop that early is quite commital and I am not sure by now if I really like it. But if you play it or not you will get some good ideas – tactical and positional.

After playing this system several times I have to correct my review – no use for the light squared bishop – lets get rid of it and get a great game!

As I expected from Eugenes teaching, a really amazing explanation, clear and easy. He makes you think by guessing the next move on the game.

Again, Eugene has surprised me with his teaching method, very understandable and detailed. I feel I can play and win any game right now. Do you know that feel? It’s Awesome!! 😛

Though beeing a Morra Player I bought this DVD and gave the System quite often a try – but I am not completely convinced in several lines. For a Grand Prix player I would recommend the Ginger Gm DVD of Gawain Jones together with this one to get more flexibility in the Grand prix attack, which I like more and more :-)
