Empire Chess Volume 24

Chess Strategy is the most difficult step in the road to improvement for beginners, requiring a deeper understanding of chess than simply tactics. You can think of combinations as math equations with a given, concrete result that you can prove. But strategy is more like describing the variables in this math problem and how changes will affect all aspects of the surrounding environment.

Play like Anatoly Karpov

Effective long-term strategy is what made one of the best players in the history of the game, Anatoly Karpov, so incredibly good. While beginner chess players should be proficient in tactical awareness and opening play, there should be a comprehensive approach that also incorporates strong strategic understanding. In this comprehensive chess video/DVD, Grandmaster Damian Lemos explains how beginner chess players can develop a strong foundation in strategy and use this deeper understanding to create powerful long-term strategies that will crush opponents and instantly improve your results.

In this 4th DVD of the beginner chess course GM Lamos covers the basics in how to formulate winning strategies. Again using sample games by strong players, Lemos explains in a clear and concise manner how plans are formulated as the games progresses past the opening phase. It is important to have a solid plan in place as you enter the middlegame phase as this will dictate piece placement and tactical shots. Again, I know of no other DVD that is devoted almost exclusively to this important aspect of the game of chess. As an added bonus, Lemos spends a little extra time explaining some of the opening strategies of these players. A must-have DVD for the emerging club player.

I always was terrified when I was playing with any rival, even if he/she was amateur. Now, I feel more secure about my tactics and my reactions are faster and accurate. I’m ready to the next level!
