Master Method Series #17

So many ambitious chess players never achieve anywhere near their potential, held back by some unseen force despite their hard work and dedication.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

GM Daniel Naroditsky draws on his experience as both a prodigy and a coach to identify and cure the 15 biggest weaknesses that hold chess players back – many of which you may have never realized were serious problems before.

By understanding why one mistake follows another, why we suddenly miss an obvious move and how we somehow get out pieces tangled up, we become aware of the potential for these mistakes before making them, enabling us to play better chess.

If you have hit a plateau in your chess results, it’s time to cure some of those deep-rooted problems and set your real ability free.

Daniel’s personality really shines through in this series with his unique style. He seems to live and breathe for Chess! His METHOD will give the viewer a complete overview of all of the important concepts leading to chess improvement. A really enjoyable course from a real chess professional!

  2. Rated 5 out of 5

For someone so young, GM Naroditsky first DVDs are a crown jewel in the Master Method series. His knowledge and enthusiasm shine through as he teaches you how to become a complete chess player from the opening through the endgame. The examples he chooses are highly instructive and many are from his own game library. One minor quibble is that when he gets excited, he tends to talk quickly and I had to replay the video a few times to make sure I was able to understand his explanations. I would take away one-half star for this but since that is not possible, I will leave my rating at 5 stars. You can tell he put an extraordinary amount of work in these lectures and I’m hoping he will come out with a 3rd course in the near future. Highly recommended.

I found the political references off-putting. However, it does emphasize how good the course is if I was able to enjoy it despite this irksome element. The fact I could agree with his political sentiments wasn’t enough for me to stop thinking it didn’t belong in a chess training course. This is a very verbose course so you must like listening to somebody talk a lot about chess. There are plenty of examples to demonstrate what GM Naroditsky is saying. I like listening to long explanations about chess and digressions (if you enjoy digressions coupled with enlightening chess wisdom take a look at the Gormally Method as well – my favorite and most entertaining course). Apart from the soundness of the knowledge shared by GM Naroditsky, I enjoyed the thought and effort that went into producing a very nice course.

  4. Rated 5 out of 5

Daniel really does a good job of outlining his growth as a chess player as he teaches! He shows what materials he personally used, and the books he recommended were great. He also talks about the little things that brought him to grandmaster level, like keeping good notes, and mindset. I loved his explanation of his own games that he played, showing lines he loves and why, and explains what he does now as he progressed. His summary of endgame techniques was extremely handy, and was probably most useful for me personally since I have a hard time studying endgames from most videos and books. He’s also very entertaining, so these videos are as easy to watch as they are instructive.
