International Master Sopiko Guramishvili covers the Caro-Kann (1.e4 c6), the French (1.e4 e6) and the Pirc (1.e4 d6) from White’s perspective.
To give the viewer a sound and complete white repertoire against 1.e4 e6, 1…c6 and 1…d6 that doesn’t require hours of studying main lines, but will still pose problems for future opponents.

- Caro-Kann with 3.exd5 cxd5 4.Bd3 – Part 1
Sopiko provides you with an easy-to-learn weapon against the solid Caro-Kann. 3.exd5 cxd5 4.Bd3 was a Bobby Fischer favorite, and has recently made a comeback at the highest level.
- Caro-Kann with 3.exd5 cxd5 4.Bd3 – Part 2
In the second part on this weapon against the Caro-Kann, Sopiko looks at the mainline 4…Nc6 5.c3 Nf6 6.Bf4 Bg4 7.Qb3. This is very likely to be Black’s choice, so pay attention!
- French with 3.exd5 exd5 4.Nf3 Nf6 5.d3
The Exchange French! And no, we’re not playing for a draw! Sopiko shows you how you can use the same line against both the French and the Petroff (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.d3 Nf6 6.d4 d5), following in the footsteps of a certain Magnus Carlsen.
- French with 3.exd5 exd5 4.Nf3 – Alternatives on move 4
Yup, we are still studying the Exchange French! In this video, Sopiko tackles 4..Nc6, 4…Bd6 and 4…Bf5, making sure it’s not all roses for Black there either.
- The Pirc, Move orders and sidelines
This video deals with the Pirc Defence (1.e4 d6), against which Sopiko offers a healthy setup with Nf3 and Be3, often exchanging the dangerous g7-bishop as soon as possible. Here we look at move orders and sidelines.
- The Pirc, Mainline
This second part of Sopiko’s anti-Pirc repertoire covers Black’s two main plans with c6 and a6, both of which prepare counterplay with b5. Sopiko recommends trading the g7-bishop with Bh6 and striking in the center with e5 at the right moment.
- Wrap up and pointers
Sopiko gives a quick overview of the lines she covered in the video series and reminds us of the key points to remember when facing the Caro-Kann, the French and the Pirc.
