With the Vol. 1, First Your Child Will Learn These Chess Basics…

- How to make plans and form a strategy
- Beginner chess endgames
…Then Your Child Will Develop Life-Changing Skills Like:
How to Choose Between Seemingly Equal Options: In life and in chess, we are often forced to make tough choices, and without good judgment, mistakes will be made. (Diagrammed Example): When a child gets to “eat” the enemy queen, they usually think the game is over, GM Susan explains how to avoid this trap and look closer…until they find the much better Qh8 checkmate!
- The Tenacity to NEVER Give Up! When a child feels like they’re “losing”, the usual reaction is to lose hope and stop trying. GM Susan teaches them that they should NEVER give up, as chess (and life!) has dozens of ways one can defend like a tiger, crawl back from the brink of defeat, outwit opponents and finally win (or draw via “stalemate tricks”) in the end!
How to Stay Calm, Take a Deep Breath and Escape from Danger: A child’s first instinct when faced with danger is to PANIC and react impulsively… GM Susan teaches how our young champion can identify the danger, assess the options, and save the day! (Diagrammed Example): The black queen is pinned to her king and there seems to be no way to avoid losing her. Many kids would think “I guess I have no choice” and capture the bishop… instead of looking deeper and finding the game-saving …Bc4! which blocks the pin!
Think Ahead! GM Susan will teach your child to visualize outcomes in advance and then calculate the correct path to success. This is an invaluable skill in both chess and life! (Diagrammed Example): The bishop can capture all pawns only by doing so in a precise order… your child will be able to calculate to the end in their mind, without even moving a piece!
Be Ambitious! Timid children soon become ambitious as they learn to TARGET each other’s kings and concentrate forces in the attack…and once they start winning games with these ideas their confidence explodes! (Diagrammed Example:) White has her queen positioned close to the black king, but she needs help…so with the ambitious move Ng5! a queen checkmate on h7 is inevitable!

Then we will focus on the post-beginner stage in Vol. 2
The post-beginner stage is the most critical in chess.
If you want to make serious progress in the game, it’s what you do now that matters.
Too many players approach chess learning in a haphazard way – it always comes back to bite them later on…
They lose game after game because of weak endgames or positional understanding, spending years stuck at the same old rating as they try to unlearn bad habits…
Get it right the first time with GM Susan Polgar, former prodigy, world champion, and one of the finest coaches in the world today.
The Susan Polgar Method for Scholastic Training Vol.2 gives you a properly designed comprehensive course that covers everything.
What’s in the course?
30 lessons averaging between 15 and 20 minutes in length – perfect for daily study.
- Candidate moves and calculation. Master the most important skill in chess with Susan’s advice on how to visualize outcomes and calculate the correct path to success. Would you find the stunning game-saving move for Black here (diagram)?
- King and pawn endgame mastery. The cornerstone of great endgame play. ALL other endgames can trade down to king + pawn, so you need to know which positions favor you… and how to convert them. Susan explains everything, from “the rule of the square” to triangulation and creating passed pawns. Learn chess the right way with this 8.5-hour course from GM Susan Polgar. You’ll progress quicker and avoid the problems many players experience later on because of bad habits.
Creative thinking. Your experience of chess patterns will help you massively… but you also need to be able to find creative solutions. Susan helps you develop this skill by walking you through composed studies like this (diagram). With the rook en prise and facing a nasty discovered check, how does White save themselves?
- Winning trades. A rook for a rook, a bishop for a bishop… that’s equal, right? Wrong! It usually favors one side. Susan explains how to be on the winning side of the trade every time.
- Castling secrets. Still castling on move 5? You might have a better move. Susan explains when and where to castle and why sometimes it’s better not to castle at all!
Learn the secrets of strategy, tactics, endgames, and develop a winning mentality with this comprehensive course from an award-winning GM coach.
This is a training program designed to build competitive players the right way… without the bad habits that impede progress further down the line.
