  1. Rated 5 out of 5

I would normally never consider playing this way- the Scandinavian/Center Counter Defense seemed to always be knocked as an unsolid opening because of the way the Queen’s position can win tempos for white after Qxd5. I normally play the French against 1. e4, but it requires the study of immense amounts of theory and my life as a chess player became too busy to devote the time needed to dig in. So I went looking for something simplier and found it in the Qd6 variation of the Scandinavian. It is less theoretical and very difficult for white to get a winning position against if you learn the major variations which this short course covers! Roman takes a less theoretical line and provides instruction in how to use this opening to simplify your black response to 1. e4. Roman covers all the major lines and provides a straight forward way to completing development and seeking equality while preventing white from gaining an advantage in the opening. Easy to watch, listen, and learn. If you are looking for new ways to respond to 1.e4, I highly suggest this one.
