The Sicilian Defense: Crushing Black with the Alapin c3 Sicilian

Crushing Black With The Alapin (c3) Sicilian

Crushing Black with the Alapin Sicilian

The Alapin Sicilian is one of the most effective weapons for white against the Sicilian Defense, deviating very early from the main lines with 1. e4 c5 2. c3.

White’s plan in the Alapin Sicilian (also known as the c3 Sicilian) is very direct – build a strong center with pawns on e4, c3, and d4 while avoiding the massive amount of theory associated with the main lines of the Sicilian Defense.

The Alapin Sicilian has been employed frequently at the elite Grandmaster level, having been played by renown GMs such as Sveshnikov, Short, Ljubojevic, and many others.

The Alapin Sicilian is the perfect opening choice for chess players of all skill levels as many Sicilian Defense players are simply unfamiliar with the theory – virtually guaranteeing that you will be much more prepared than your unsuspecting opponent!

This 5 Volume chess DVD series is presented by none other than Grandmaster Ron W. Henley – one of the most popular and effective chess instructors of all time.

GM Henley’s value as a chess trainer is undeniable – he has trained and prepared legendary talents such as Anatoly Karpov, Hikaru Nakamura, and Irina Krush (to name a few!).

In the chess DVD series ¨Crushing Black with the Alapin Sicilian¨ GM Henley bases his primary analysis on the 574 page book ¨The Complete Alapin Sicilian¨ written by one of the most influential pioneers in this opening system – GM Evgeny Sveshnikov.

As a dedicated Morra player I need to know the Alapin as well, because it can easily transpose if an opponent is not willing to accept the “Mayhem in the Morra” arising after taking the pawn – so I studied the DVD of Tiviakov a few years ago – but these 5 DVDs are definitely a stunning – considering the amount top material and the work Ron invested in it – it will bring everyone who really studies it to a new level. My recommendation – when looking the vids, take the text files and create a register with the variations so that you can easily find them. If you really want to extract the most out of it – create a new database e.g. with chessbase and copy all the games into it – make your own comments a.s.o. definitely a lot of work but not without reward!
