Bogo-Indian Defense – VECO

English Opening Chess

The Bogo-Indian Defense begins with the moves 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Bb4+ (see the diagram).

Black delays placing his pawns in the center in favor of developing the kingside rapidly. Although seen at all levels of chess, it’s a particularly good opening for club players because it is flexible, sound, and doesn’t require learning a lot of theory. Together with the Nimzo-Indian, this can offer a complete repertoire for Black against 1.d4.
